Interpreting

At BTS, we have a database full of various types of interpreters. Depending on the type of project, we select the most appropriate interpreter for you. When doing this we also take the region into account in order to find the most economic and efficient solution for you.
Should you need equipment such as headphones or interpreting booths, we can also arrange this for you. We’ll happily take the organisation of the whole project off your hands.

Liaison interpreting
The translator translates for two people having a conversation, translating what they say sentence by sentence from the language of speaker A to the language of speaker B and vice versa. A liaison interpreter is typically used for negotiations, trade fairs, company visits etc and no equipment is used.

Consecutive interpreting
In this case, an interpreter translates a speech at regular intervals when the speaker has stopped talking. Consecutive interpreting is used for presentations with large audiences and the interpreter does not use any equipment.

Simultaneous interpreting
The interpreter translates whilst a speaker is talking. At conferences, the interpreter works in an interpreting booth. If the audience is small, a whispering interpreter using a mobile system can be employed.

Interpreting for civil-law notaries
The introduction of the new Notaries Act in 1999, especially Section 42, has greatly affected the way in which notaries and interpreters work with each other. This Section of the Act requires that, where a civil-law notary executes any legal instrument in the presence of anyone not sufficiently proficient in the Dutch language, a sworn interpreter/translator must be present to translate the proceedings. This part of the Act often causes considerable confusion because there is no such profession as a sworn interpreter. However, there are sworn translators who also act as interpreters. A better definition would be ‘an interpreter who should preferably also be a sworn translator.’
